Please welcome our new web site sponsor Reading The Play to the League Freak family!

Reading The Play is a weekly Preview (Friday mornings) provided for the up coming round of NRL games. It’s written in an easy to read style, not over complicated with stats or jargon by someone who understands the game and follows it intently. The weekly information is unlike anything else available and includes individual game by game previews and opinion, selections and detailed betting advice.

These weekly game by game previews started as a labour of love some 10 years ago as a distraction for a frustrated coach who’d now retired. Through the coming months and then years these thoughts were shared with friends, then their friends and on it grew to numerous fellow league lovers. For the last 7 years years these previews have also been published on two internet sports forums, and with one thing leading to another we now find ourselves on the web.

Reading The Play’s author played the game for some 15 years, then moved into coaching, doing so for a further 18 years including 3 years on the coaching staff of an NRL club. He’s coached sides to win titles at a senior level, run the football arm of a successful district club, managed professionally paid players and worked in various development roles, so it’s fair to say the game is certainly in his blood and he offers a rather unique and experienced view.

As strange as it may seem given his love for the game he follows the game, not any particular team and so his views are independent, from the ‘head’ (and wallet) and so not influenced by any particular ‘love’ or ‘soft spot” for any one team.

It’s one thing to follow any sport, it’s another to bet successfully on it – and that’s a major goal for “Reading The Play”. It’s something that I have been doing successfully (and seriously) for the last 5 years, and through recent years have fine tuned an approach further to now provide a weekly list of recommended betting selections and staking advice that anyone can follow. Unlike many “others”, I publish (and have done so now for years) all of my opinion and betting recommendations in advance each Friday and then track and update week in week out all results.

I don’t use systems, complicated mathematical formulas or rely on multiple pages of stats to form an approach. No, I spend hours each week watching each and every game, sifting through numerous replays, assessing the strengths and weakness of the form on offer combining this with my knowledge and feel for the game to form my opinions – “reading the play” so to speak. All of this work then forms my preview content, opinion, selections and more importantly a judgement on what might look the right gamble (or two).

This betting advice has shown a profit across each of the last 5 years, the most recent year (2011) showing final results of 51% winners across the full season (including all Origin and Finals games) and provided a Profit On Turnover of 37%.
